GLASSPVCK Adds the Perfect Touch of Color to Zach Gray’s ‘idontwannabeyourfriend’

by A. Samuel Lewis

Native to Sacramento, California Mitchell Butler has avidly refined his production craft over the course of the past 6 years. Just under a year ago, a shift in motivations birthed a new guise for Butler, which included a nearly complete change of direction, shifting from a more retro synth-wave style into his newly coined style of hybrid-trap under the moniker GLASSPVCK, which he coins as “death trap.”

With a back catalog, which demonstrates immense levels of sonic depth, with cumbersome bass patterns, crisp percussion and a variety of otherworldly, borderline industrial fills; GLASSPVCK has more than illustrated his proclivity for creating massive soundscapes with releases such as ‘Amber Alert’ or ‘Hijack’.

In his most recent expedition, the talented producer tackles the feat of a more emotional, synth-heavy canvas, remixing Zack Gray’s ‘idontwannabeyourfriend’ with the innovation and precision of a veteran artist. Preserving the delicate vocal melody in the introduction, a soft piano melody guides the listener to a field of blooming floral synths, which waver gently in the wind. An intricate ensemble of percussion hastens the pace of the track as a gritty synth takes the reigns, launching the tune into a cascade of breaks and innovative fills.

Despite the sheer infancy of his career, GLASSPVCK has managed to find a unique niche within the overall broadly defined genre of ‘trap’ that both fit perfectly with the current taste for bass-heavy music, while the subtle intricacies give him a flavor of his own. We’ll be keeping a close eye on GLASSPVCK as he continues to grow as an artist and refine his style, be sure to check out his profile for some certified heat, and grab the track for free here!
