GLD, a duo that have been producing and releasing consistent bangers for 4 years now, have just released their own stylistic flip of N.E.R.D.’s ‘Rockstar,’ with ‘Rockstars Are Dead.’ GLD first reached notoriety with their single ‘Buttz_,’ which garnered support from artists such as Skrillex and Flosstradamus. Coming from hardcore and punk backgrounds, this group is known for putting out heavy, energetic works, with trap undertones.
‘Rockstars Are Dead’ expertly blends crunchy, grimy basslines with the vocals of ‘Rockstar,’ guaranteeing that the early 2000’s rap/funk-rock retains its original feel while gaining newfound layers. The chorus, “You can’t be me I’m a rock star, I’m rhymin’ on the top of a cop car, I’m a rebel and my four four pops far so, It’s almost over now, it’s almost over now,” drives the listener into a proverbial frenzy, with “it’s almost over now” repeated on the build up for emphasis before it devolves into drops that are equal parts lively and weird. Keep GLD on your radar for 2019, as consistent releases like this will surely land them a huge year.
