Do you like smooth elevator jazz? Do you also love brain-bending bass music? If you answered yes to both, then we have the absolute perfect track for you. Coming from two of SoundCloud’s brightest up-and-coming producers, Bonnema and Saka, is ‘Elevators.’ As Bonnema tells us, “We’re trying to take listeners on a pleasant elevator ride with an unexpected neurohop groove to it.” What a ride it is. What begins as a laid-back ride in a fancy elevator quickly turns into one of the wildest trips you’ve encountered. You walk into the mahogany and brass accented lift with a smile on your face and not a care in your mind. As you hit the up button, that LSD tab you took 45 minutes ago really begins kicking in. As it climbs each floor neurohop sounds pull you into cartoon forests and launch you to distant planets. It’s unexplainable but enjoyable. As you reach your destination, the jazz flows back in and the doors open. You’re in for quite a day.
“I’ve been really messing with high contrast shit lately, and since Bonnema and I write mostly high energy shit, when Bonnema threw in that sample in the intro, I decided we should totally make it go back n forth between that and our sounds for a really interesting juxtaposition,” Saka tells us. It’s that juxtaposition and high energy approach that make ‘Elevators’ one of the most interesting songs you’ll likely hear this year.
Oh and you know we had to ask them about that incredible Tony Hawk Pro Skater inspired artwork. “The idea was brought up by Joey, my manager and the artwork was done by Viktor Kadic. Saka and I are big fans of THPS and thought this would be a cool homage to our childhood,”Bonnema explains. Stream ‘Elevators’ below.
