It seems like forever ago that I was listening to the weekly episodes of Oliver Heldens’ Heldeep Radio. Before I started lurking the depths of SoundCloud for the hottest up-and-coming producers, I actually got most of my new music from these radio shows. At the peak of future house, Heldeep Radio was certainly among the best for finding the most exciting, dance floor-ready bangers, and it introduced me to some of my favourite artists.
As times passed and interests changed, I will admit that my love for future house began to die out. The genre became mainstream and every Tom, Dick and Harry was trying to imitate Tchami and Oliver Heldens’ signature sounds, before quickly saturating it and bringing it to where it is today. However, there are still a few artists that I never stopped following from those early days, and perhaps the most versatile and consistent among these is Odd Mob.
If my memory serves me correctly, I believe the first Odd Mob track I ever heard was his ‘Kuaga‘ remix. Every single one of his (their at the time) remixes and originals would henceforth be featured in Heldeep Radio until I stopped listening, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was still the case. However, the track that stuck with me the most and that I still gets me going to this day is his remix for Mike Metro & Stahsi’s ‘In The Dark’. Everything from the groovy basslines to the insanely catchy melodies will have your entire body ready to shuffle like never before. Check it out below.
Odd Mob has grown to become one of house music’s secret weapons through a combination of his melodic, infectious originals and his gritty yet still booty-shaking remixes on his Oddities page. The genius behind everything he touches never ceases to impress, and another prime example of this statement is his latest ‘Dour Nights‘ remix. With an album in the works likely to be released this year, now’s your chance to get acquainted with the house aficionado if you haven’t done so already!
