YBN Cordae Traverses Relationships On ‘Locationships’

by FUXWITHIT

Writing a rap song about the various girls in your life is practically a rite of passage for young rappers making a name for themselves. In 2001 Shawn Carter aka Jay-Z released his seminal album The Blueprint into the world to much critical acclaim. The whole album was an absolute banger but one of the songs that stood out to me thanks to its lyrical cleverness was ‘Girls, Girls, Girls,’ which featured Jay toasting about the various women in his life over a classic Just Blaze beat.

This brings us to up and coming rapper YBN Cordae. Cordae has made a quite a name for himself with his lyrical ability, remixes of Eminem’s ‘My Name Is,’ a response to J-Cole’s ‘1985’ and his own breakout single ‘Kung Fu.’

His most recent song ‘Locationships’ boasts production from S1 featuring some big trap-drums, dreamy retro-video game synths and some nice vocal chops. Cordae pays homage to the Jay-Z track taking time to describe each of his girls. For his Atlanta girl Cordae raps; “I found this chick in Atlanta, her elegant country grammar, swear she bad and she boujee, she got such high standards” paying homage to Migos.

The sky’s the limit for Cordae, having recently been spotted in the studio with Dr. Dre and hinting at features from Ty Dolla Sign and Pusha T. If this is an early album single then we’re in for an entertaining ride from the Maryland-based rapper this year!
