Teeming with unbridled production talent and an inherent knack for sound design, 14-year old Omar ‘Moore Kismet’ Davis has left a remarkable impact on the world of experimental bass since first gracing the scene nearly 3 years ago.
With a full-fledged EP release, an official remix for Never Say Die, and bountiful singles and flips to fill in the nooks and crannies, 2018 has proved to be one of the most efficacious years from producers of all backgrounds, and Davis looks to build on that momentum going into the new year with a full-hour takeover as a special guest for the FUXWITHIT Mix Series.
Be sure to check out the full interview with Davis below, where he teases forthcoming collaborations, discusses his strengths as a producer, and shares some tips on finding and sustaining creativity!
Since the last opportunity we had to catch up with you for the premiere of ‘Opposites’, how have you been staying busy?
I’ve been working on a lot of new demos to send off to my dream labels. Some I am gonna be keeping to myself for a little while though, hehe..
In what ways have the last few months, including your debut on Never Say Die demonstrated the time and effort you’re putting into your craft behind-the-scenes?
The last few months have been crazy in terms of productivity and planning. I wouldn’t necessarily qualify my 404 remix as my debut on NSD, but even having something on there is a perfect start.
With how quickly you’ve grown in popularity, it’s remarkable that you continue to find new areas of development and innovation within your sound. Do you have any tips for aspiring producers on sustaining inspiration and creativity?
I always tell people that my really wacky sound design comes from heavy experimentation. The track at 25:52 was by far some of my favorite sound design that I’ve done to date. It was so weird to create and it all started with just altering this one processing chain I’d saved from a scrapped track. All I would say is that producers who are struggling with being more creative with their music, listen to some of the music of your favorite artists and see what they do. Then proceed to build from that and try it yourself but do it in a different way and make a different sound.
From a production aspect, what would you consider to be your biggest strengths?
I’d have to say that my strengths would most likely be sound design, arrangement, vocals (lol), and mixdowns. My only weakness with mixdowns is that sometimes I go a bit overboard with the high frequencies, which I’ve been told several times by my other producer friends.
With so many potential areas of focus, how do you organize your time to ensure that you are advancing in each area from production to sound design, mastering and vocals?
I don’t really do any organizational stuff in terms of working on different aspects of my production. I just start a lot of new projects, see what I can do and what I’ve improved upon, and then implement it in future projects.
Does the setting play any role in benefiting or hindering your creativity?
Not really. I’m staying in my lane until I’m ready to unleash the beasts on everyone.
Are there any major milestones you are shooting for in 2019?
I would love to release at least one single with each of my dream labels by the end of this year. I’d also love to do more collaborations with some of the people who play out my music at shows. And lastly, seeing as how I went from 300 followers to 5000 around the beginning of the year, I wouldn’t mind reaching the stars and trying to reach 10,000 followers on SoundCloud by the end of this year.
What do you have in store with this guest mix?
This guest mix is actually really special as it showcases some new tunes from myself, as well as homies like Oddprophet, TYNAN, Leotrix, HEKLER, AXEN, FrostTop, Hollimon, and more! Some of the tunes in this mix will also be on my upcoming EP which I’m on the verge of finalizing. Super excited for everyone to hear it and see what I’ve been working on!
