PREMIERE: Dropwizz Adds Dark Yet Exhilarating Touch To RL Grime & graves’ ‘Arcus’

by Steph Contant

The inception of RL Grime‘s new Sable Valley record label was accompanied by ‘Arcus‘, a euphoric collaboration between the label head and graves highlighting both of their natural hit-making abilities. Just over a week later after this debut release, we’re stoked to be premiering Dropwizz‘s inventive take on the soon-to-be classic.

With over fifty remixes under his belt, it’s obvious the Canadian producer has a knack for turning classic originals into innovative reworks. When asked about his passion for remixes, Dropwizz states “I do have a different kind of love for remixing, one reason being it was what really got me into producing and it taught me a great deal about the music. In fact, my first piece of work was actually a remix. My approach is quite different when I take on a remix, my goal is to of course add my own sound and style but also manipulate parts of the original in such a way that they do not sound the same entirely, although when heard it does ring a bell. I believe this creates a synchronous flow of the original tune and my sound.

Although melodic and triumphant, ‘Arcus’ is riddled tads of darkness with minor keys in the chord progression, which Dropwizz grasped as an opportunity to exploit in his remix. The addition of a laser-inspired pluck in the introduction sets the stage for the eerie drop that follows, where the talented producer adds a gritty bassline and ear-shattering synths to give ‘Arcus’ a brand new identity. Returning to the original essence of the track for the latter section, Dropwizz adds a unique touch of exhilaration to flip the conclusion into a vibrant experience.

A seamless blend of darkness and beauty, Dropwizz’s take on ‘Arcus’ is a must listen. Check it out below!
