Last year was unparalleled for Space Laces in terms of new music. Who knows what prompted the wicked mastermind to go on such a rampage of releases, but the entire bass community is grateful for whatever it was. Through the ground-breaking Overdrive EP, a couple of mean collaborations with Excision, a sound design masterpiece in the form of ‘Whiplash‘ with Topi and his fifteen-minute genre-defying ‘Vaultage 001‘ mix, the mixdown virtuoso restored faith within the bass realm that there are still artists pushing boundaries to new limits.
With a few IDs sneaking their way into the Never Say Die Vol. 6 mix, fans rejoiced at the thought that last year was no fluke and that Space Laces was here to stay. This thought has quickly been validated with today’s new single titled ‘Phone Tap’.
A brief dialing tone introduces the track, before Space Laces quickly shuts it down with a gnarly bass and squeaky clean effects. A short build up is met with a classic Pee Wee Herman “I’m trying to use the phone!” sample, where the creative genius subsequently catapults the track into bass ingenuity featuring arguably the best sound engineering in the game. Wonky synths and perplexing basses are heard throughout, and they’re arranged in a manner completely unrivaled by anyone else to create a bewildering listening experience. The second half of the first drop is then flipped into classic Space Laces dubstep madness, again boasting nothing but the cleanest production. And, if the first half didn’t have you falling out of your chair, the second half will surely rip it out from underneath you.
Buckle up for a wild one and don’t miss ‘Phone Tap’ below.
