thook is one of the best out. He’s not one of the best out of Toronto, or one of the hottest rising stars on SoundCloud. No, he’s simply one of the most talented producers right now. Period. He’s proven this time and time again, whether it was on his Quality Good Records EP, through his Menace Series or the grip of singles he’s unleashed. Coming through with yet another reminder today is ‘Numbers.’
“The track has this weird heartbeat feeling in the beginning. Definitely doesn’t sound like a person though. It’s closer to a simulated heartbeat, created by numbers,” thook tells us. With this feeling in mind, thook creates a world that’s beautiful yet ominous, lush but synthesized. What started as a lo-fi track quickly began to get grittier as the song began directing its creator. “I didn’t plan to make this type of heater. It’s weird when the song itself inspires the rest of it. Like an Ouroboros,” thook reflects.
Pulling inspiration from Tron and pairing it with a spiritual energy in the builds, sampling 3 6 Mafia and bringing in his signature brain-bending drops, thook creates a sound that’s nothing short of masterful. And just when you think ‘Numbers’ can’t get any more awe-inspiring, you’re hit with an icy violin to make your jaw drop even further.
‘Numbers’ is a preview of what’s to come from thook’s upcoming album NOISE. “This isn’t on the LP. But it will give you a good idea for what to expect. I have a 10-track album called the ‘NOISE LP,’ & it’s my craziest project to date. ‘Numbers’ could fit somewhere in the universe of the LP but I’m releasing it for free to get that energy out. This release is also a big deal because this year I have a lot planned. Going to do shows in the U.S. Lots of locations- more on this as the LP gets released!”
