No Vacancy at the Insane Asylum Following Ponicz ‘Madhouse’ EP

by A. Samuel Lewis

With the sudden surge in the riddim subsect of the larger dubstep genre, a massive influx of talented young producers and an overwhelming increase in the overall quantity of releases available has created a precarious environment. Successful producers within the realm of bass are demanded to contrive uncanny, unique approaches or fall victim to changes in tastes and popularity that can just as easily compel an artist’s career as it can destroy it.

Tucked within the chaos, Jon Smith, more widely recognized to the public as Ponicz, has more than achieved veteran status within the ranks of bass, with a foundation that stems as far back as 2013 with Smith’s influence to the earliest stages of UK-riddim and extends through his modern-infused style as depicted in more recent releases ‘Chopper’ and ‘Delusion’.

The latest Never Say Die Black Label project from the talented UK-native titled Madhouse, further distinguishes the sound of Ponicz from the masses, composing top-notch sound design with insatiable ripples of fluctuating bass in a manner that simply cannot be replicated.
