PREMIERE: Mr Jennings Revamps illexxandra’s ‘Creepertown’

by Tony Leonard

Reigning from Richmond, Virginia, Mr Jennings has been connected to music from a very young age. “I started playing classical piano when I was 7. Did that ’til 14, then started dabbling with production. Released my first tune as Mr. Jennings in 2011 and my first EP in 2012,” says Jennings in response to being asked how long he had been making music for. Through many different life distractions and focuses, Jennings has now decided to pursue music to his fullest ability. Taking influence from the sounds of hip hop, glitch hop, electro house and more, he takes the freeform bass element to a new depth. In his forthcoming EP he teams up with Brooklyn-based DJ and producer illexxandra. She is a bold statement to the scene, playing many women-focused and LGBTQ events. She is also a well known name all across the vast camps of the festival Burning Man. In their latest collaborative EP, they allow you to witness a connection between two east coast power houses. In one of the soundscapes offered, Mr. Jennings remixes illexxandra’s ‘Creepertown‘.

Mr. Jennings completely revamps this tune with his remix. The original holds a much darker, straight-forward and minimal layered bass anatomy, while the remix proposes a much higher energy level. It pulls elements from the originating depiction and creates a harmony between the original and rework with the natural delivery of Jennings’ peculiar sounds. A higher rate of percussion intrudes over the reverberating bassline and holds a heavy drip like sound. Eventually, this turns into a pluck and maintains a cool down before retrieving the initial sound configuration.
