PREMIERE: Baajewala Draws From Personal And Cultural Experiences In ‘Mixed Emotions’

by Steph Contant

Although the trap scene in India is nothing like it is in North America, Baajewala has been able to combine his musical influences with his cultural identity to consistently create a unique listening experience. After earning the attention of the trap lord UZ himself as well as established artists such as QUIX and Hydraulix, the talented beat maker has been hard at work perfecting his latest project. The Hell Raiden EP is a five-track sonic expedition through the mind and experiences of Baajewala, and we are super excited to premiere the meaningful ‘Mixed Emotions’ prior to the full release.

I had just gotten into a relationship when I started working on this EP. But, it was my first big shot, it is QGR we’re talking about. It was my first relationship ever, and I wanted to keep it going as well as I could. But, I was mid deadlines and I had a lot of stuff going on at the same time. I just couldn’t manage it all together. It was the most frustrating time of the year, when you want a thing but you don’t want it at the same. So, I made choices and some compromises. That’s when I started ‘Mixed Emotions’,” Baajewala states about the tumultuous roller coaster behind the heavy track.

‘Mixed Emotions’ begins in a leaden essence, before tribal chants gradually make themselves heard among other eerie effects. Baajewala progressively ups the tempo and energy, before a piercing vocal leads listeners into an epic climax. With rhythmical precision of clapping drums and mechanical synths, Baajewala ties ‘Mixed Emotions’ with captivating sounds in the pristine production. Repeating this theme twice over, the Indian producer manages to captivate your attention for the entirety of the track with an outstanding second half. Don’t miss it below and buy it here!
