As one of Australia’s fastest rising stars in the bass scene, Yvng Jalapeño is making a name for himself through consistent boundary-pushing productions. In the last month alone, he has released the eclectic ‘Yeah Nah‘, before going on to officially remix QUIX’s ‘Ride Or Die‘. Fans can never really predict what is coming next as the talented Aussie continues to ride his hot wave, but one thing is certain: whatever genre he decides to dabble in, it will be fire. A true testament to this statement is Yvng Jalapeño’s newest track titled ‘Cali’ that we are ecstatic to premiere today.
An ominous horn sets things into motion as familiar percussion and the 130 BPM tempo hint at a bass house heater. Wonky synths and tribal chants are then layered above to build to a climax of tension, before the distant “somebody scream” sample flips the track into a bass schism. Swaying between a trap melter dominated by hard-hitting synths and a bass house groove where the bass is accentuated by bouncy drums, ‘Cali’ offers an eccentric breach in expectations. Without sounding disjointed, Yvng Jalapeño is able to craft a chaotic sonic experience through a meticulous arrangement of mechanically precise synths and stabs. The latter portion of the track is a further flex of the producer’s artistic mastery, as the basses only get gnarlier.
With three forward-thinking productions under his belt in such a short time span, it’s safe to say that this year is the year of the spice. Don’t miss Yvng Jalapeño’s ‘Cali’ below.
