Zeds Dead Make Triumphant Return to Their Roots with ‘Bury a Friend’ Remix

by Alex Bell

Canadian duo Zeds Dead have been working like absolute madmen as of late. With their own record label, Deadbeats Records, their own tour, radio show, and just life in general, it’s almost absurd to think that they would be also able to produce new tracks as well. Miraculously though, Hooks and DC have pulled it off again, and in truly OG fashion. Putting their own spin on Billie Eilish’s hauntingly beautiful ‘Bury a Friend’, the boys are back to their 2011 dubstep vibes. Eilish, an 18 year old American singer and songwriter, has been taking the world by storm with both her incredible lyricism and voice that makes the hair on your arms stand on end. It’s almost like her voice is whispering deep into the darkest recesses of your soul and awaits a returning echo. These artists coming together is a deep dive into a pool of emotion; sadness and grief wrestling with self-doubt and a tinge of anger.

Zeds Dead have put out many releases since their Rude Boy EP in 2010, but arguably none have really truly captured that original vibe that made them stand out so sharply. Their remix of ‘Bury a Friend’ almost seems like an homage to that first EP, paying tribute to what garnered them such international praise and multitudes of fans. The vocals leave off on “I want to end me,”,but this is one song I absolutely did not want to end. If this release is a teaser for works to be unveiled later in the year, you already know both hardcore Zeds Dead Fam and casual fans alike will be waiting with bated breath for what the boys will unleash next.
