Sumthin Sumthin Whips Up a Lil Somethin’ Somethin’ with ‘Gryme’

by Alex Bell

Conrad Woodul, better known by his producing moniker Sumthin Sumthin, has been making quite the name for himself since graduating from the prestigious Icon Collective school in Burbank, California. Releasing his first track ‘Windex’ three years ago which has amassed him nearly 50k plays on Soundcloud alone, he’s been on a tear ever since. His musical journey began at the tender age of 8, when he picked up playing the piano. When he was 10, he attended a music festival in downtown Los Angeles with a broad spectrum of talent, and immediately got sucked into the community aspect of the culture. Now, he’s had releases and premieres with ADBC Records, Run the Trap, The Untz, Quality Goods Records, YourEDM, Nest HQ, Noiseporn, us here at FUXWITHIT. Most recently, Sumthin Sumthin has connected with Philadelphia-based Jadu Dala. Jadu Dala is a label that thrives on giving young artists a platform to showcase their talents, primarily sticking around the experimental bass and new-age trap realms. To date, they’ve had 115 singular releases in 2 years as the “Magical Music Outfit”, and their wizardry continues with Woodul’s ‘Gryme’.

‘Gryme’ feels like the soundtrack to an exotic adventure or safari, but not on the African plains with wide open landscapes and giraffes. No, this is a swampy, dirty, arduous romp through a South American rainforest filled to the brim with all sorts of creatures lurking in wait. If tribes untouched by modern society were capable of making electronic music, this would be the type of track that they would bump. Featuring an intro highlighted by dark, ominous horns, it quickly accelerates into Sumthin Sumthin’s trademarked hybrid style that really gets your atoms bouncing. After the first drop is an airy section filled with noises that would be unmistakable from a real jungle, or possibly a Rainforest Cafe, followed by an ending that is just as fun as it is weird. You might compulsively put on sunglasses every time you hear a Sumthin Sumthin track after this because his future is blinding, not just bright.
