LA based bass duo bd hbt have quickly become a favorite among the underground bass community. With releases on Below The Surface, Don’t Die At Work, misc., [SUS] Collective and more, it’s clear that they’ve captivated the attention of the industry’s finest tastemakers. Combining influences from metal and rap and fusing them into bass music, their sound is aggressive and wonky. Their Conception EP perfectly showcased their sound and they’re just getting started. Today bd hbt bring us into their bass dungeon with an almost hour long guest mix. The mix features a slew of incredible originals, IDs and remixes. We also caught up with bd hbt to discuss their bad habits, video games, production tips and more. Dive into the mix below and check out the interview.
Where are you taking listeners with this mix?
I want listeners to get a taste for what’s to come, while remembering the past we came from and how far we have grown. This mix contains a bunch of music from myself and producers I have been looking up too; released and unreleased, as well as some classics that have been inspiring me since the beginning of this journey.
Playing my music too loud, staying up too late, smoking too much weed.
What are your bad habits?
Playing my music too loud, staying up too late, smoking too much weed.
What are you most looking forward to for 2019?
Making more of an individual sound, building my brand, and having a solid foundation to bring my music career to the next level.
What’s the last thing that inspired you?
My fellow producers. They continue to inspire me every day. Whether it’s their music or their attitude, I’ve never felt more at home than with music.
Don’t restrict yourself to a genre, constantly try new things that might not work, and RELEASE your MUSIC! The world wants to hear it.
Your sound is crazy experimental. Do you have any sound design tips for up-and-coming producers?
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Don’t restrict yourself to a genre, constantly try new things that might not work, and RELEASE your MUSIC! The world wants to hear it.
If you could only listen to one project/album for the next month what would it be and why?
The Beatles. As cliche as it sounds, I find a lot of comfort in the Beatles, as they remind me that four kids from Liverpool can take the world by storm with a good sound and a good message.
I think my intense passion for learning programs/games is what really sparked my interest in making music.
It seems like you’re pretty big video game fans. Is that a fair assessment?
I love video games, and my creative process when it comes to writing music is very parallel to my strategies in both. I think my intense passion for learning programs/games is what really sparked my interest in making music.
Favourite video game of all time?
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the classic).
