Shadient Explores Broad Spectrum Of Dance Music In ‘Divide’ EP

by Steph Contant

Over the past few weeks, Shadient has been busy releasing singles from his highly-anticipated sophomore EP. First came the neuro-dystopian ‘Abberate‘, which reminded us all that the British producer is among the best at creating boundary-pushing bass music in a sea saturated with generic midtempo. ‘Numbers Station‘ and ‘Medination‘ followed suit, where the eccentric artist further pushed some of his distinct sounds into the depths of dark, experimental music.

Today marks the release of the fourth and final track, ‘Cyclone‘, as well as the Divide EP in full. “Some of my more primary influences initially were Gesaffelstein, Boys Noize, and Aphex Twins. Very minimalistic and dark European techno artists but I always felt that palette could be explored in a more musical way,” cites Shadient about the motivation behind his work. Exploited to a tee in all four tracks, the unique producer offers fans a diverse listening experience with his Divide EP, breaking the barrier between gritty bass and elegant musicality. Drawing influence from a broad spectrum of dance music such as breakbeat in ‘Cyclone’ and drum & bass in ‘Numbers Station’, listeners are always kept on their toes, as Shadient weaves through these genres effortlessly.
