If you asked me to name a few of the hottest up-and-coming west coast producers, KUREI, yojas, and bd hbt would be at the top of the list. All 3 have been on a tear as of late mixing trap, rap and experimental bass to create monumental bangers. Today the trio collide on the super collab ‘Hood.’ The chemistry on this one is clear as it was born so organically, “I started the original beat, then sent it to yojas cause we were talking about getting a collab going for a minute (this was before ‘off the chain’) and he sent back what he had done, then when Sam (bd hbt) heard it he got so hyped and asked to hop on too. All of us are homies and work on beats regularly so it was a no brainer, then after the beat got sent back and forth a bit and a few in person sessions had gone down, ‘Hood’ was born,” KUREI tells us about the release.
Out on Below The Surface, each section showcases the artists’ styles while flowing and progressing throughout. The opening section is stripped down, dirty bass with just right knock courtesy of KUREI. As it evolves through the middle, yojas. adds some serious sauce, fattening it up and sprinkling in a smattering of dizzying samples including his signature bird call. Just when you think it can’t get any nastier, bd hbt drags ‘Hood’ deep into the darkness with filthy wubz. Expectations were high seeing these 3 come together, but they definitely did not disappoint.
