FLY has arguably put out the most original material since the turn of the calendar year. With today’s release marking the LA-based producer’s eighth track of the year, it’s mesmerizing to see the experimental producer continue to push his sound further while continuously drawing from new sources of inspiration.
“I’ve had a lot of tracks ready for release for a while now and in January I decided it was time to put music out more frequently. I’ll be continuing to release this often for the rest of the year,” FLY tells us about the catalyst to these frequent releases. Today, we are ecstatic to premiere ‘Wuzu’, FLY’s latest concoction driven by a minimally tribal sound.
“The name Wuzu originated when I was looking through traditional African tribal field recordings and I found a Wuzu group chant that stuck out to me. My sound is heavily influenced by world music, incorporating tribal elements and in this song the chant had a big influence in the direction from the beginning. The Wuzu chant plays right before the 2nd drop, which helps introduce more tribal elements/sounds into that last section,” FLY explains about the influences behind his latest. An eerie piano and supernatural effects set the stage in the introduction, before the track is quickly launched into an other-dimensional experience. Highlighted by various minutely-chosen sounds arranged to mechanical precision, FLY brings his tribal inspiration to an exotic extraterrestrial world, while simultaneously keeping it grounded through the terrestrial samples. Don’t miss ‘Wuzu’ below!
