Hekler’s ‘What The Hek’ EP Is Not For The Faint Of Heart

by Steph Contant

There may not be a hotter name in bass music than Hekler in recent months. Recent bookings for the summer’s biggest festivals such as HARD Summer and Lost Lands are a testament to the producer’s quick rise to the top, and his latest collaboration with Calcium titled ‘Doom‘ set the stage for the what we can expect from the multi-talented artist. Fresh off the aforementioned post-apocalyptic melter, Hekler is back with his first solo EP titled What The Hek, out in full today on Never Say Die.

Displaying a dexterity and versatility that is unparalleled in the bass realm, the What The Hek EP is not for the faint of heart. ‘Get Loose’ kicks the project off in full force, where Sam King’s distinct vocals are used to catapult the track into trap-riddim hybrid sure to send any festival crowd into a frenzy. Blurring the lines between all variations of bass music in a single track as he does so well, Hekler has created a wild weapon in ‘Get Loose’. ‘Doom’ follows, before ‘Excommunicado’ and ‘Bands’ see the adept producer return to his entertainingly obnoxious heavy trap signature. Every track is highlighted by pristine sound design and unique arrangements of heavy-hitting sounds that make this Hekler’s most well-rounded work to date.

A perfect balance of dubstep and trap, the What The Hek EP is sure to have a mainstay track for any bass lover. Don’t miss it below.
