Thrpy Delivers Bass Lovers a Left Hook with ‘Top Shottas’

by Alex Bell

Jerremy Laesser, better known by his producing alias THRPY, has been a consistent player in the bass music realms recently, between garnering massive support through his releases on Emengy, Phuture Collective, Sleeveless Records, and Saturate Records just to name a few, along with creating both Above & Below the Surface labels. Harnessing a unique approach to fusing traditional trap-style formations with punchy, grimy bass lines has quickly earned him far-reaching praise and recognition including playing at last year’s Lost Lands sound camps and at this year’s Saturate Records SXSW showcase. Now, he’s back with a new release on Below the Surface entitled ‘Top Shottas’, an immensely energetic and stylistic song sure to please both trap heads and fans of more experimental works.

The first thing that you’ll notice about ‘Top Shottas’ is just how hard hitting the kicks are, making a supremely satisfying thud on any decent sound system. Next, you’ll be roped in by the impressive snare work and full-bodied 808’s, before Laesser viciously slaps your ear drums with a veritable waterfall of crushing bass. Adding in little audible treats like gun shots and a satisfying “ahh” sample resembling someone sipping a lemonade on a hot summer day, creates tangible space and keeps the audience guessing. This is a fantastic menagerie of trap influences, hollow wub sections, and thunder clapping kicks that culminate in a delicious feast of sonic delicacies. 2019 is sure to be a massive year for Laesser between his own self releases and the never-ending stream of fire content from his labels.
