Across The Pond: MoStack

by Paul Varndell

MoStack, is a household name for many now in the U.K. Born in Hornsey, the North London rapper saw his career take off back in 2016 with success after success. From going on tour with Wretch 32 (An OG in U.K. Rap), to selling out his debut headline show in just 3 hours after the venue was upgraded after selling out prior. Later that year he became a MOBO Award Nominated Artist and hadn’t even released a full length body of work.

One of his early releases, ‘Liar Liar’ which dropped at the beginning of September 2016, saw huge success for the emerging rapper. The track made it to the A List of BBC Radio 1Xtra & had a huge official remix from Krept & Konan and J Hus, more massive names in the scene. J Hus and MoStack have since partnered up many times and are an inseparable pair, when it comes to writing summer bangers. Unlike some of the other artists in the Across The Pond Series, MoStack’s style of U.K. Rap features more Afrobeat inspired rhythms and works closely with the iconic U.K. Producer Steel Banglez on a regular occasion.

Here are just three of MoStack’s must here tunes, this was hard to narrow down.

‘No Words’

Another partner in Grime, Dave, teams up with MoStack for one of his most successful charting songs to date. Summer 2017 didn’t know how to be ready for when this one dropped. Two very talented rappers and one very solid summer anthem.

‘Daily Duppy’

At a time when MoStack’s fellow rapper JHus was in Prison, MoStack dropped a record breaking Daily Duppy for GRMDaily. Shortly after the release, we saw JHus freed from prison and on stage later that evening with the Champagne Papi on his sell out tour.

‘Fashion Week’

Produced by none other than Steel Banglez, this is currently MoStack’s most successful feature to date. His opening line is enough to make the song an official Top 10 Hit but this well crafted masterpiece peaked at Number 8 at the end of March this year.

MoStack is set to drop his debut album Stacko on June 7th which has features from the likes of Dave, J Hus and Stormzy. The first track ahead of the release dropped last week entitled ‘Wild’ and if this is a taste of what’s to come, we have a lot to be excited for.
