L.U.X Talks Inspirations, Israeli Music Scene, Technology, ‘Delta’ EP + More [Interview]

by Steph Contant

L.U.X is quickly establishing himself among the greats of heavy music. While 2018 saw the Israeli producer lay his foundations in the dubstep realm through two EPs and many more singles and remixes, this year sees him breaking out of his shell and really climbing the ranks through innovative yet still Earth-shattering releases. High-intensity singles such as ‘Fate‘ and ‘Another Day‘ (and its metal VIP) set the stage earlier this year for what was to come, and now L.U.X has returned to the esteemed Never Say Die: Black Label to deliver another monumental four-track project, the Delta EP.

Building on the momentum he has gained over the last few months, L.U.X pulls out on the stops in his latest project, staying true to the heavy sound he has become known for while unleashing a new versatility that only puts him further ahead of his competition. Through eclectic sound design and gut-wrenching bass, L.U.X’s Delta EP is sure to be rinsed by all of your favourite dubstep producers.

With the recent release of the Delta EP and an ever-growing touring schedule, we decided to catch up with the talented artist to talk everything from inspirations, to the music scene in Israel, to the advancements of technology and more. Don’t miss the full project and interview below!

How are you doing recently? What currently inspires you and drives you on a daily basis?

I’m doing great. I’ve been heavily inspired recently from just how much great music is being pumped all the time and I admire those who constantly innovate and kill it with awesome tunes! Totally drives me to make the tunes I make today.

Who were your early inspirations to create heavy music? How do you think those inspirations influence your sound today?

I find that there is a very close resemblance between heavy dubstep to metal, at least that’s how I treat it. That by itself opens a whole new world for me to get inspired from!

I feel like myself and countless non-US artists work towards being the best, to just have some form of relevancy over there.

What is the scene like in Israel? Do you think living outside of North America’s bass hub has pushed you to become an even better producer?

The scene in Israel was once thriving, and promoters had many huge artists over (around 2011/2012). However, since then it has completely died out. Last year, two buddies of mine created “Basscamp” and they basically brought the scene back to life. Pretty freaking dope!

Living outside of North America is an unforgiving challenge to any artist, especially in our scene. I feel like myself and countless non-US artists work towards being the best, to just have some form of relevancy over there.

You recently tweeted “It’s mad thinking about how technology continues advancing and things that we never even thought could exist a few years ago are literally all around us.” Where did this idea stem from?

Really, the only reason it came up was because I searched some stuff regarding sound waves and how our ears react to sounds in general. I then noticed I am reading stuff that has been researched for decades from a cellular device. Wild!

On a similar note, do you FUX with AI? Are you more scared or excited about it being implemented in society?

I think technology, AI and all that is extremely dope and could benefit many people who might need it. Perhaps the world seems doomed at times, but people are working hard to make it better and I completely believe in the power of science and technology.

Let’s talk about ‘Another Day’ and its VIP. What drove you to pursue a completely different sound/genre/style in the VIP? Have you ever done anything similar to this in the past? Do you hope to continue in the future?

I have done these metal VIP’s in the past and it’s something I just gotta get done from time to time for my soul lol. Obviously, it won’t be as successful as my other tunes but it makes me happy having it out regardless. More tunes in your portfolio could never hurt :)

Congrats on the new Delta EP! How long has it been in the works? What were some of the biggest challenges in the execution of this project?

Delta EP has been in the works for quite some time as the title track ‘Delta’ has been done for 7 months prior to its release! I’m really stoked about Black Label letting me experiment and create sounds that aren’t so normal on such a big release.

A huge challenge was to bring all these weird tunes together, and I think I was able to achieve that. For example, ‘Essence’ has 3 completely different versions!

When I can’t play shows and satisfy the ‘live’ side of this musical journey yet, I should at least be able to satisfy my fans with the best music I can create!

In what way did you want Delta to be different from Death Grip?

Delta EP is more diverse and is more of a showcase of what I can do. For me, it’s important to show what I’m able to achieve as I want more crowds from afar to fuck with me and my vision. When I can’t play shows and satisfy the ‘live’ side of this musical journey yet, I should at least be able to satisfy my fans with the best music I can create!

Finally, what are you most excited about for the rest of the year?

I’m excited about plenty of things… WHICH I cannot speak of yet. Just be sure to follow me if you fuck with me, cuz I got tons planned for you guys :)
