Nestled within a rural town just north of Nashville, Tennessee producer B-Dos finds the inspiration for his sensationally diverse progeny of eclectic trap music. Releases such as ‘Spring’ via Quality Goods Records fourth compilation this past year and ‘Honey’ via Don’t Die At Work’s Day of the Dead compilation in October weave a striking impression of acuity of his craft, which capitalizes on avant-garde sound design techniques and a propensity for utilizing a tasteful variety of samples and instruments.
It was a delight to catch up with B-Dos one on one to discuss his background with beat making, the role that Phuture Collective has played in shaping his career, and gain some brief insight to his future plans.

What outlets aside from music do you utilize to unearth new creativity?
I actually have weird habits I do to help with creativity and I do it every day, like an hour before music I will sit there and listen to my SoundCloud feed or listen to mixes or whatever to just hear new music, but while doing that I’ll practice doing 3D modeling in Cinema 4D or doing something else that inspires me to be more creative, like even just going to the park or leaving your house (which is rare) to look at nature and being inspired by it. Usually just doing some other art form really helps with creativity. Like dabbling in things that are also creative definitely have given me a creative spark.
Your release calendar first begins just under a year ago but your production capability seems to stretch far beyond, how long prior to your debut release had you been producing music?
Thank you for your kind words! I started producing late 2015, and it was mostly hip hop beats that I was making in FL Studio, but then I realized that I didn’t really have a plan on how I would get people to rap on the beats I made, so then in like 2016/2017 I got really big into Dubstep and Hybrid Trap, and I didn’t need anyone to do anything on my music besides me, I could do everything myself. So I started doing that and taking music a little more seriously, I then found the underground scene of Soundcloud when someone reposted a track from Rauthentic (Sumthin Sumthin – ‘Bloom’) and like it changed my life, because I found so many amazing artists that still inspire me today like Blake Skowron who is still my favorite producer to this day. That’s when I really got into the sound design aspect of music and actually trying to stick out and do something different.
So to answer your question I’ve released other music under “B-Dos”, but it was way different than what I am releasing now, You can still find some of it on YouTube if you search my name, but it’s like big room house and stuff LOL…
I normally prefer to work alone, but I’m always down to collab with people.
A significant portion of your releases are solo efforts, would you say you prefer to work as an individual or are you simply more selective about the styles that you feel would mesh cohesively with your own?
I normally prefer to work alone, but I’m always down to collab with people. I do have a few unreleased tracks with some homies and other people in music, and I put a few of those in this mix. If I like something someone sends me and they ask me to work on it, I’m definitely gonna work on it, but as far as finishing a collab. That’s the hardest part, haha.
You’ve demonstrated an extensive arsenal of single releases, do you have any plans to release an EP or full album at any point in the future?
I’ve definitely been thinking about releasing an EP or an album. I would probably go with an album though, cause I want to tell a story with it. I have a journal that I would write all my emotions down, and why I was feeling that way, and then I would write down just feelings that I had and the reason why I had these feelings. I’m going to write a song based on everything I write down. It’s gonna be something very very new for me. I want to do something I’ve never done before with this album. I hope I get motivated to start it soon, but still, I wouldn’t wanna rush it.
Where does the inspiration for your track titles come from?
So, this is complicated, because sometimes when I’m making a song, the title will come to me, other times, I see a piece of art that I like and I use that image to make a track title, but most of the time I will be working on an idea and realize I haven’t saved and then I save it as a weird name, and then I think of a word that is as close to the random name I gave it as possible and I go with that.
Don’t try to imitate anyone else’s sound, make it your own thing, and most importantly NETWORK MORE!
If you had the opportunity to go back and educate your former self say a year back in the future, what advice might you instill?
Don’t try to be the same as everyone else or one person. Do what feels right to you, Don’t try to imitate anyone else’s sound, make it your own thing, and most importantly NETWORK MORE!
What role has the Phuture Collective played in shaping your career as a producer?
I honestly give credit to Michael from Phuture for jump-starting me and giving me a platform to put my music on, and helping me get heard. He found me at about 100 followers almost a year ago, and he saw something in me that no one else did. He encouraged me to keep pushing boundaries and keep making the music I liked to make.
What do we have to look forward to in your guest mix as well as the remainder of 2019?
A lot of unreleased music from me, and music that I’ve been listening to a lot. I had a lot of fun with this one. You’re gonna hear some collabs I’ve been working on too, so shouts out to the homies for that. <3
