Vermyllion Flips D12 Sample Into Trippy Banger ‘Purple Pills’

by Colin

Chicago-based newcomer Vermyllion is gearing up to take the bass world by storm. His debut release ‘Dreamstate’ dropped via Spicy Bois and already has gained support from big names like DMVU and Zeke Beats. Proving his first release was no fluke comes ‘Purple Pills.’ The trippy bass banger is built around a familiar D12 sample taken from the 2001 hit of the same name. Processing Eminem’s vocals through a vocoder, Vermyllion creates an eerie but addictive melody. Sprinkling in some serious bass and gritty sounds design, we’re left with a hypnotic and fresh yet familiar heater.

“I grew up listening to D12 as one of my favorite groups so when it came to flipping this sample it was a given. With ‘Purple PIlls,’ I wanted to capture the feeling of a really intense and heavy psychedelic experience. The whole song is built around the haunting trippy vocoded melody made from sampling Eminem’s vocals. I wanted to keep that hip-hop vibe so I made sure my drums were heavy and driving throughout the track. I wanted the various bass sounds and interplay with the melodies to feel like a cohesive product but to also be jarring and keep people on edge,” Vermyllion states about the song’s inspiration.
