six impala Deliver Expansive Debut Album ‘RUBBER’

by Steph Contant

The brain-child of some of SoundCloud’s most underrated producers (KaTT, underscores, HELVETICAN, SCRIPT and formerly shivan), six impala formed back in 2017 and completely scrapped the history behind their old, collaborative works leading up to the release of their debut album, RUBBER. Released independently yesterday, this new project will redefine story-telling within music through its narrative-driven backbone and unusual yet highly-captivating arrangement.

The introduction is a combination of soothing humming, weird sound effects and a comical skit – three very distinct soundscapes coming together to set the stage for the eclectic nature of RUBBER. ’66GTO/TAPE 1′ follows, sending listeners into a spiral of eccentric rave music that is both chaotic and mechanical. ‘FARAWAY199X/TAPE 2’ is a stark contrast to the other side of the cassette, as six impala create an old school rave anthem highlighted by cutesy melodies, high-pitched vocals and an upbeat tempo that is so catchy that it is sure to be everyone’s guilty pleasure from the album.

Weird, experimental bass music lovers will find their niche in tracks such as ‘STATION’ and ‘ri pple’ as the six impala geniuses go full mad scientist in these unparalleled heaters. Other standouts include the wildly unique bass house-oriented ‘CHROMETYPE’ that rivals JOYRYDE for one of the most memorable tracks of this genre of 2019, and ‘eyes in the water’ that is a vocal-driven track that abruptly turns into a straight banger.

Fans of heavy rock can even get their fix with ‘trauma,’ proving that RUBBER really has something for everyone. Any fan of music in general should listen to the project from start to finish without skipping, as it is bound to be one of the most musically diverse and most flawlessly produced works of the year.
