It’s official, Dog Blood are back! Following a few live performances in 2019, the release of their first single in over five years titled ‘Turn Off The Lights‘ back in March and a wild mini-mix earlier this week, Skrillex and Boys Noize have returned to the roots of the project to unveil their newest concoction: a four-track EP boasting the same name as the aforementioned single. The Turn Off The Lights EP is the longest Dog Blood work released to date, and doubles the discography of the highly elusive yet highly respected duo.
The project begins with EP’s grittiest and most hazardous track, ‘BREAK LAW.’ From the title, one can tell that Dog Blood are about to unleash something that should be illegal, but nothing can prepare listeners from what hits. An oriental-inspired introduction is used to throw you off guard, as Skrillex and Dog Blood’s talents shine in this captivating preface. However, it’s the drop that does the real damage, as relentless synths bombard your speakers for a minute straight to send your mind into a fury of madness. ‘BREAK LAW’ might just be one of the best tracks of 2019 to date. ‘4 MIND,’ a massive collaboration with OWSLA favourites josh pan and X&G, follows. A house atmosphere is set through a blaring alarm ringing over punchy percussion, before a repeated vocal is used to build the track to an apex of energy. The drop is a complete change of pace as the four producers choose to go with a minimal section highlighted by crisp production, which then takes a trap turn near the end just to keep you on your toes. ‘KOKOE’ with OTIRA, who also goes by Raito, ensues, and sees Dog Blood tone down the energy from the ‘BREAK LAW,’ but not the pristine production. A jungle-inspired house track, ‘KOKOE’ is bound to become a favourite in clubs across the world.
Enthusiasts of god-tier production should dive deep into the Turn Off The Lights EP, but beware of never wanting to come out of the flawless project. Don’t miss it below.
