HMU Dispatches Grimy Bass with ‘GRIT’

by Tony Leonard

LA based producer, graphic designer, and Don’t Die At Work founder HMU is bringing the heat just in time for summer. Keeping DDAW alive, ‘GRIT’ is quirky and gives a whimsical theme to the typical trap structure. Tracks like this are the soul and backbone to proving why SoundCloud will continue to reign as the supreme platform for unconventional and underground music. It also exemplifies the boundary between art and advertising. With HMU being his own graphic designer, the cover art tells a story of broken but not beaten, in the sense of continuing to build a very specific and proper fan base to provide shattering mediums of art to.

This song reminds me of when I would take a rubber band and pretend it was a guitar, but deeper with a continuous bass pluck. It also has an everlasting introduction of sharp avant-garde samples that disappear as quickly as they appear, filling in the empty spaces. I have a feeling this is only the beginning of what should be expected from HMU and Don’t Die At Work this season. Grab that free download here and keep DDAW on your radar.
