PREMIERE: Too Much Drops Off Bouncy Banger ‘whippin’

by Colin

Too Much brings the bounce on his latest single ‘whippin’. The Vancouver native is gearing up for the release of his Sauce EP on 7/1. Two weeks back he gave fans a taste of what’s to come with the title track and today we have the pleasure of premiering the second single. ‘whippin’ came together as a result of Too Much’s musical background and some inspiration from two of his favourite producers. He elaborates on the process saying, “I recorded the clap and Bali loops first for this one. I used to be in a prog metal band so weird time signatures and music theory are really fun for me to mess with. All of those loops started as 7/8 rhythms that I tweaked to fit a 4/4 groove. Then I constructed the chord synth that was directly inspired by olswel and inimicvs. Everything else just fell into place.”

Pulling vocals samples from a forthcoming collab with Jae.Joven (which will be on the EP), Too Much creates a work that’s undeniably fun and infectious. The drums posses a tribal energy that pairs perfectly with the vocal manipulation and knocking bass. Managing to be complex while minimalistic, ‘whippin’ is something special.
