PREMIERE: PlayTime Merges Classic And Modern Trap In ‘Break It’

by Steph Contant

Although known for his genre-defying and boundary-pushing edits, Florida-based artist PlayTime is quickly making a name for himself on the original production front as well. Today, we are ecstatic to be premiering his latest solo endeavour titled ‘Break It,’ as it sees the budding producer explore the past and present styles of trap all in one cohesive piece. When asked about his preference between edits, remixes and originals, PlayTime states “I would have to say there’s nothing like creating something new and original from samples and synthesis. I feel most people know me for my edits or the Re-Plays but this release is the start of focusing mainly on original work.” If ‘Break It’ is any insight into these works, the trap scene is in for a real treat.

I tend to draw inspiration from things outside of dance music like movies and skateboarding. For this track, I was really inspired by old arcade games. The first drop lead has that bleep bloop sound which reminded me of playing Pac-Man,” PlayTime continues, even pushing this inspiration for the artwork. The talented producer stays true to the game-inclined sound throughout the track, creating a typical festival trap build up before flipping the vibe around with a wonky, modern trap drop. In the second drop, PlayTime pushes this forward-thinking sound to new limits, sure to set any festival stage on fire. Don’t miss ‘Break It’ below.
