Chee Delivers Mind-Warping ‘Sunken City of R’lyeh/Domino Effect’

by Steph Contant

There is no denying that Chee is one of the most underrated producers in bass right now. With a sound unlike any other and sound design on par with the greats, it’s a shame the South African-born, Philadelphia-based artist is not headlining festivals at this point. Coming off his stellar Read Once Then Destroy EP released back in February, the talented producer has been busy cooking new material, from the sinister remix of Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky’s ‘Who Dat Boy,’ to working with his roommate Subtronics on a VIP of ‘Headband‘ (that needs to come out as soon as possible).

Continuing his theme of distorted dominance, Chee has returned with two new singles titled ‘Sunken City of R’lyeh’ and ‘Domino Effect’ that are sure to rattled your speakers to their core. In the former, Chee creates an ominous soundscape with the sound of a heart monitor beeping slowly and a piercing chainsaw warning of an impending homicidal bass. There is no salvation as the drop hits, as contorted synths and crisp crunches of bass dominate at the forefront over top eerie aura, with Chee not letting up on the energy until the very end. In ‘Domino Effect,’ the same essence is kept alive, making us wonder what has possessed Chee to have him unleash such demonic sound design.

Don’t miss ‘Sunken City of R’lyeh’ (there’s a typo in the Spotify track) and ‘Domino Effect’ below!
