Since its first release earlier this year, MYOPIC SOUNDS has steadily grown to become a big player in the underground electronic music scene, showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Two names that were featured in the collective’s debut THE AWAKENING mixtape were founder CAPTSIS and Mesa-based KOZ, and while both tracks were stylistically different, they both produced a banger in their own respect. Now, the two have teamed up on the epic ‘MONARCH,’ further demonstrating their individual and collaborative talents.
When asked about how the two linked up, CAPTSIS states “KOZ reached out to me a few months before I started MYOPIC SOUNDS and we were always stoked off each others work! After having him on our first MYOPIC tape he sent me a project for me to jump on it as a collab and that’s how ‘MONARCH’ kicked off.” He also adds that “this collab was the kind that took awhile to get done but we are both very stoked on the outcome! We were able to mesh our ideas throughout the entire track, but still have each of our own style for the drops! The first drop more of my style and direction in it while KOZ went in on the second drop!”
‘MONARCH’ is exactly as CAPTSIS describes: the conglomeration of two talented producers coming together to deliver an experimental banger. A brief yet heroic introduction catapults listeners into an eccentric trap-oriented drop, before a short bridge leads listeners into gritty, metallic insanity. The second half of the track only furthers this scintillating wonky theme, capping off the beast with as much intensity as the beginning.
