Chance The Rapper Releases Debut Album ‘The Big Day’

by Zach Bayha

Chance The Rapper has captured the hearts of millions of people since his freshmen mixtape, 10 Day, dropped so many years ago. He solidified his place as a uniquely talented rapper with Acid Rap, reaching the upper echelon of the rap community and receiving praise from critics and rappers alike. Chance flipped the script on his third mixtape, Coloring Book; focusing his lyrical prowess on topics like family and love, and winning Grammy’s in the process. Now Chance The Rapper is back, with his first full length album, The Big Day.

The Big Day is a massive 22 track album, featuring collaborations with Benjamin Gibbard, Nicki Minaj, MadeinTYO, DaBaby, and Chance’s own dad, Ken Bennett, to name a few. The first track ‘All Day Long’, features Chance rapping over classic feel-good beats that’s he’s known for and it’s an amazingly fresh start to the album. ‘Roo’ is another standout on album, showcasing Chance’s powerful lyricism over emotionally moving chords and an uplifting atmosphere. The last track on the album, titled, ‘Zanies And Fools’, is an interesting mashup of gospel choir vocals and afro-drums, where Chance absolutely wrecks his verse. The entire album has so many high points; it’s definitely a project one has to listen to multiple times to full discover it’s meaning.
