PREMIERE: Allen Mock Flips IVORY’s ‘Unbreakable’ Upside Down

by A. Samuel Lewis

Tokyo’s Allen Mock has an unprecedented ability to re-envision a track with an authentic impression in mind. Preserving select aspects of the original, he makes a deliberate effort to integrate tactics of his own to ensure a flattering balance between cogency and familiarity in each of his remixes.

Setting his sights towards IVORY’s ‘Unbreakable,’ Mock reflects on the middle-eastern symbolism within the original as providing the primary inspiration to integrate his own vision within the track, “When I heard ‘Unbreakable’ for the first time, I instantly felt connected with the break and build as well as the inescapable desert-like atmosphere of the track,” he reflects.

A sense of nostalgia washes over you as the unmistakable chorus of elaborate strings and eclectic percussion swing into action. Subtle rearrangements and additional layers of subs provide a heightened sensation of depth to the introduction, which works to build a progressive momentum in even the earliest stages of the track. “The challenge here was to make my lead as authentic as possible so that my personal style fits and flows effortlessly with IVORY’s buildup,” Mock shares regarding finding a balance between the two styles.

As the empowering vocal countdown crawls into periphery Mock’s treatment becomes vividly discernible, layering prolonged surges of bass with intricate mixdowns and even adding an unsuspecting Psytrance switch-up to round off the track with a bang.
