#tbt – PHAZZ – Insomnia

by Jeremy Stern

Despite being silent for over a year, French producer PHAZZ’s beats still smack harder than ever. The man who blossomed through the golden era of SoundCloud remains to have any hints of upcoming work, so we decided to resurface one of his classics that you might have missed.

PHAZZ has always been streets ahead of the curve with his production, and ‘Insomnia’ is no exception. As modern bass-music has exploded in popularity, timeless bangers such as ‘Insomnia’ seem to age like a fine Pinot Noir. The track bumps an insanely swingy half-time rhythm with the most cacophonous of white noise cuts, vocal sample chops, and other kinds of mischief. As with any PHAZZ track, his signature kick drum knocks through your speakers with sheer confidence.

PHAZZ has come a long way since his classics such as his baby-making ‘Addiction’ remix‘, his hyphy edit of Stormzy’s ’know me from,’ and forward-thinking remix of MØ’s Don’t Wanna Dance. If this is your first time hearing of PHAZZ, it would be most wise to give his discography of next-level remixes & originals a thorough digging.

Bump ‘Insomnia’ below.
