sfam have been blurring the lines between trap and experimental bass for the past few years. Renowned for their minimal yet incredible sound design, the duo never ceases to impress. With their upcoming EP shadows due out tomorrow on Wakaan, we have the pleasure of giving you an early taste of what to expect with the premiere of ‘Don’t Test Me’. Easily one of the project’s standouts, sfam connect with Mersiv and rapper quaviusblack for an insane ride into the darkness. Opening with the vocal loop “don’t test me, motherfucker I said it,” they let you know from the outset it’s about to get hectic. As the percussion builds, the track explodes into a brain-bending array of wonk. Distorted bass is layered with the haunting vocal and snappy drum work for a disorienting ride. Constantly evolving and progressing, the madness deepens with each passing second as it builds and drops several times over. sfam and mersiv are masters in sound design and ‘Don’t Test Me’ is a reminder that they are not to be tested.
sfam admit this one didn’t come together quickly saying,“the collab with mersiv took a while because of both our schedules being so busy and we don’t live near each other but we’re very happy we waited for it to be finished. quaviusblack brought a couple of the tunes to life vocally like he always does. He’s the only rapper we’ve ever had on any of our tracks and we know we can always count on him to come through with some fire.” We can assure you this one was the worth the wait. Stream it below and look out for shadows on Wakaan tomorrow.
