Don’t let his name fool you, QUIET BISON has been making some serious noise. After exploding onto the scene in 2018 with his debut EP Trials and Tribulations, the gifted young producer further amazed with his follow-up Sequence. His experimental sound has made him a favourite among fans and producers alike including What So Not, whom he had the pleasure of opening for at Red Rocks and doing an official remix for ‘We Can Be Friends’. Continuing the momentum comes his latest body of work NIGHTFALL.
“I got the idea for this EP when I was on a late night drive and felt that I needed music to keep me awake through the trip. I’m usually a night owl anyways, so a lot of this EP was written at night or just as the sun was rising while I was sleep deprived and a little out of it,” QUIET BISON explains of the projects creation.
Needless to say this one will definitely keep you awake. Opening with ‘Fowl,’ the introduction builds tension before releasing into a downtempo, almost spiritual air. ‘Spectral Range’ layers looped and distorted vocal tones with grand synths that drive off of a cliff, into cavernous and plummeting bass before elevating listeners once more with a regal flair. ‘Steadfast’ is a jarring emotional journey that drifts between dark feelings of loss and brightened plucks of hopefulness. With a glitched out opening that casual listeners may find off-putting, ‘Dusk’ builds into one of the project’s standouts. Sunset soundscapes swirl with deeper inner demons for a hypnotic head-nodder. ‘Apnea’ feels like an underwater exploration that’s half dream and half nightmare. Another standout comes in the form of ‘Throne,’ an inviting experimental expedition through QUIET BISON’s mind. Closing things out is ‘Godrays’ which acts as a heavenly outro.
NIGHTFALL is yet another example as to why QUIET BISON is the future.
