Ceaselessly displaying a production prowess well beyond his years, MARAUDA (formerly known as Mastadon) has deserved every bit of recognition he has earned over the last few years. From releasing on the biggest labels in the game to taking on the bass scene’s biggest stages, the Australian producer has been a decimating force in the heavy dubstep scene that has only continued to climb the ranks with each and every release.
After unleashing a few of his highly-anticipated IDs back in June on the SHIT VOL. 1 EP, MARAUDA underwent a slight shift in image, which left a few fans sceptical about his future direction. Today, all doubt is put at ease with the release of the ELEVATE EP, as the old MARAUDA we’ve come to love has only come back stronger than ever.
The first two tracks of the three-track project, namely ‘ELEVATE’ and ‘BLUNDER,’ are exactly what one would expect from the talented Aussie. Menacing synths paired with blaring mixdowns will melt your brain for the entirety of both tracks, with repeated switch-ups keeping you on your toes (if you’re still standing, that is). Loud and aggressive yet clean and precise, ‘ELEVATE’ and ‘BLUNDER’ are added reminders of MARAUDA’s wicked production abilities.
However, it’s in the project’s last track ‘HOME’ that MARAUDA really shows a new level of depth to his skills. First teased on his MOOG account, ‘HOME’ is truly unlike anything we’ve ever heard before. It’s riddled with crisp dubstep sound design yet evokes melancholy through its wistful melodies. The SoundCloud comments on the original clip are full of people simply trying to place the song within a genre, and we can say with confidence that it does not belong anywhere. ‘HOME’ is in a class of its own, elevating MARAUDA among the best (pun intended).
