Fresh off stellar collabs with AJ Euro and bd hbt, KUREI returns with a heavy-hitting solo release. ‘Fuc’dup’ builds upon the producer’s established sound, combining elements of trap and experimental bass with rap adlibs and some west coast drip. Living up to its name, this one is assured to leave you ‘Fuc’dup’ in all the right ways. A brief intro builds anticipation before dropping into a face-scrunching and a two-step inducing, menacing drop. As it progress it just gets weirder, transforming into an off-filter slapper with a crazy lead. This one slaps to the very last moment and is assured to have you hitting replay.
‘Fuc’dup’ is a lesson in the art of resampling, with KUREI telling us, “I feel like 90% of this track came from resampling, I love taking one piece of audio and fucking it up by stretching it, putting it on different warp modes, pitching it around and adding a ton of fx and then I record a ton of variations so I get a ton of unique sounds that all still sound cohesive.” To know so much of this track came from a single piece of audio only goes to show how creative and talented KUREI really is.
