Vancouver based producer So Sus has been a staple on FUXWITHIT for the past two years. With four premieres and a guest mix + interview, it’s no secret that we’re fans of his work. Adding to the collection comes the premiere of his incredible new EP Voices. The project is the perfect balance of bass-heavy electronic music and emotional appeal. “I think the EP has to do with love in someway or another, whether it’s the loss of it, the early stages of it. I know it’s a big theme in my life. I really just want people to feel something. These songs are def not the hardest songs I’ve ever made but I just wanted to focus on emotion,” So Sus tells us. Voices delivers plenty of feels but definitely does not lack a punch in the production department.
The four track effort sees So Sus connecting with a different artist for each track. Kicking off with ‘Stars In Your Eyes,’ Akacia pulls us in with breathy vocals and a sultry sound. The drops exude a fresh future bass feel that’s uplifting and engrossing. Collaborating on ‘Cold Waters’ with Bouhi, the song takes its lead from the title; free-flowing with some icy undertones. The vocals are captivating and the first drop cuts deep with a chilling sharpness. Building upon this foundation, the track’s second half crescendos into an elevated air. ‘Code (Me & U)’ is a powerful standout that includes a strong vocal performance from South African Hendrik Joerges. Opening with flowing water and a near spiritual undertone, Hendrik’s vocals, “haven’t drank but I feel wasted, all my thoughts on the pavement” hit hard with a feeling of longing. The drops are the most agressive on the project and provide the perfect level of intensity that’s counterbalanced by the opening and breaks. Closing things out is ‘Fill Up My Heart’ with INJA. It’s a slow burner with a soulful core that heats up and cools, expertly building tension and releasing it for an eventful finale.
Voices proves that So Sus’ talent continues to expand with time. The project finds the perfect midway point between original bass music and moving songwriting. Stream the full EP below and grab it via Westwood X.
