DREVM & thook Take You To The Mortuary With ‘Dead Bodies’

by Alex Bell

True curators of an uncanny horror aesthetic via sonic manipulation, DREVM, has joined forces with forward-thinking trap and bass producer thook to create their own version of a nightmare before Christmas. With only the most evil of intentions, they’ve brought us a lethal concoction known as ‘Dead Bodies.’

The initial tone is exceedingly ominous, feeling like the introduction to a classic horror film. The low end is classic DREVM, all-encompassing and well beyond the point of full-bodied, and the first drop is very thook-centric, trappy and minimalistic. Incorporating vocals from the notoriously dark Earl Sweatshirt’s ‘Drop’, you’ll have the strong compulsion to swiftly change into all-black attire, but throw a chain on for good measure.

The little aesthetic amplifiers like the addition of crickets right before Earl comes in create this anxiety like something is watching, waiting to strike at a pristine moment. His flow over the soul-crushing bass of the last drop is a match made in heaven, or is it hell in this case? Only maniacal minds could come up with something this devious. The pronounced Halloween attitude is exceedingly appropriate and expertly executed in this case, sure to get heads a-boppin quite frequently amongst purveyors of deep experimental frequencies.
