Aussie connoisseur of ludicrously heavy productions, Josh Cassidy, has been carving a path of relentless excellence as of late. Putting out banger after banger, he’s shown no signs of slowing his pace any time soon. His latest example is a flip of the legendary RL Grime edit of TNGHT’s track ‘Acrylics,’ a festival anthem for literal years.
Cassidy’s flip takes the original and turns it on its head, going for a much heavier dubstep iteration in his first drop. The vocal sample “we don’t give a fuck what you say” right before the continuation gives this wonderful whooshing effect back into the drop while simultaneously spiking your adrenal glands. If used in a mix, this track would catch most off guard, going straight for the throat via the ears.
The second drop is completely different, utilizing quick thrusting of aggressive trap frisbee sounds that hits exceedingly low on any subwoofer. This would be a fantastic piece to test out a new speaker system with, flexing wide ranges of sounds throughout.
The original edit is a timeless classic, but Josh Cassidy’s take is a breath of fresh air and welcome rebirth. You shouldn’t be surprised to hear this dropped in many live sets throughout the next several months. For now though, make sure to check it out for yourself below!
