barnacle boi may be a name that you’re unfamiliar with. The rare producer is currently letting the tides take him where they please, but he’s been spotted by the beaches in LA, and Wilmington, North Carolina. barnacle boi specializes in emotionally charged tracks, and has recently surfaced with his debut LP, titled 2020. What originally started as an EP, progressed into a full LP barnacle boi recalling, “I’ve been working on it for about a year now, and went through a pretty rough time emotionally over the past 6 months which gave me the inspo and drive to turn it into an LP.” 2020 has such thick feelings on every track, and the way barnacle boi manages to capture the emotions creates a heartfelt journey through the album.
The first track off 2020 is titled ‘begging,’ and it is a welcoming start to the LP, offering classic melodic dubstep vibes. ‘wanderlust’ transports listeners to a world of rich atmosphere, trap beats, and an evolving synth that pulls at your heartstrings. The title track ‘2020’ is a standout on the LP, with powerful vocals and lush synths, it’s a track that is hard to miss. In ‘flux’ barnacle boi creates a rush of energy by mixing haunting vocals and an arp loop that is beautiful and moving.
