I don’t know if it’s all Daft Punk’s fault, or maybe the fact that I’ve been watching too much sci-fi stuff lately (Dark everybody?), but I have to confess that I am nuts for any kind of filtered, modulated and, in general, modified voices. Any kind!
You’ll then understand why, in just a dozen seconds, this new Levitate single has literally blown my mind, tearing my skull cap up and (quoting a SoudCloud comment) “sending chills down my ancestors spines.” The welcome that ‘Cross Me’ reserves is nothing short of electrifying and instantly projects the listener in the fitting context/mood to fully take delight in the intensity of the composition. In spite of the dark and gloomy premises and the authentic turbulent nature of the drop, what we face is not a raw one-dimensional wall of sound, but a exquisite mosaic of perfectly crafted elements. Together they build a magnificent imagery that link a passionate nature with a robotic logic in an experimental hybrid, capable of drugging and dragging into a cyber trip.
Big up to Levitate for the creativity attested in the building of ‘Cross Me”s concept (which you can appreciate also in this clip made by the artist himself) and the mastery proved in the technical realization of the track. Quoting the umpteenth comment: “simple and efficient, this is a fucking masterpiece.”
