2019 has been an astounding year for music, but what has happened to trap? Where has it gone? Is it alive and well or on the brink of extinction? If you have kept up with us at all this year, you know for a fact that trap is shining as bright as ever if not even brighter than before. In particular, one name stands out that has helped to push this genre to the forefront of the music industry is LA based producer and ICON Collective graduate KUREI. Being an advocate of the underground and counterculture of bass, KUREI has had a breakout year and is continuing to gain massive momentum going into 2020. With releases through some of the top collectives in the game currently such as Partica Artist Group, Below the Surface, [SUS] Collective as well as his guest mix for FUXWITHIT, his name is not one to be overlooked. Pursuing his craft further, KUREI manufactures a substantial trap tune with ‘Spree’.
Crossing the threshold between sophisticated yet grimy, ‘Spree’ begins with a tender intro that invites listeners to make themselves comfortable. A calming wave soars high before crashing into a certified trap slapper. Sending energy levels into overdrive, the wonky undertones serve as a cause and effect to the percussion constructed while KUREI seamlessly advances directly into the next onslaught of trap innovation.
The second half of ‘Spree’ shows no mercy as it elongates the beats heard in the first half. A conjunction of diabolical sound design and massive bass structure hits hard before falling back to a soothing array of frequencies in the outro. KUREI has been a standout artist for FUXWITHIT and we look forward to continuing our support going into the next year. Help us further the rejuvenation of the trap movement by listening below and supporting all things KUREI.
