PREMIERE: Haan808 Juxtaposes Light & Darkness In ‘After Effect’

by Colin

Hailing from New Zealand, Haan808 has been one of those under the radar producers just on the cusp of exploding onto the scene. With collaborations alongside Sango and Montell2099, plus an EP on Mad Decent’s Good Enuff, you’d think he’d be atop most people’s artists to watch list. If he isn’t on yours yet, I can confidently say that’s about to change. Tomorrow the talented producer will be releasing his incredible Light Of Guidance EP via Quality Goods Records. The five song project is a testament to his diversity and a true landmark body of work. To get you hyped for the release we have the pleasure of premiering our favourite track off the EP ‘After Effect.’

Opening with spacey synths and a stirring vocal sample, Haan808 creates a futuristic emotional introduction. As the drums build, listeners gear up for an impactful future bass drop that’s as clean as it is uplifting. Breaking things down, the vocal loop commands our attention leading into the track’s latter half. From there, the energy experiences a drastic shift, trading lighter, polished sounds for a dark and dirty trap atmosphere. It’s menacing and battle ready with a hint of the space age style that’s been lurking throughout. ‘After Effect’ perfectly harmonizes two juxtaposing sounds while keeping things fluent with the evocative vocals bends. Expect to have this one on repeat.
