mau5trap’s ‘We Are Friends, Vol. 9’ Is Absolutely Stacked

by Steph Contant

Since its first ‘We Are Friends’ compilation dating back to 2012, mau5trap has consistently put out massive bodies of work spanning a multitude of genres to highlight both established favourites and up-and-coming talents. With ‘We Are Friends, Vol. 9,’ the deadmau5-run imprint only continues to do so with 23 diverse yet equally entertaining pieces.

While doing every single track justice would be an incredibly daunting task, the compilation as a whole is an extremely well-rounded collection that spans across a plethora of styles, where open-minded listeners will be captivated for the entire two-hour run time. House music lovers can dive into ‘Wanted’ from C.H.A.Y. and Monstergetdown or Jay Robinson’s ‘Plastic Wrap’ remix, while fans of more aggressive bass music will enjoy HVDES’ electro-infused ‘Let Me Go’ and IMANU and Buunshin’s drum & bass heater, ‘Overwerk.’ Additional favourites include Floret Loret’s wonky, experimental ‘Embers’ and the nostalgic complextro ‘Subconscious’ from Kindrid.
