PREMIERE: Turn Up The Holiday Temperatures With Latu & Akira’s Latest ‘HEATWAVE’

by Alex Bell

New Zealand trap magician Joshua Latu, or Latu for short, has had a pretty quiet 2019 up to this point. Focusing on harnessing the craft, he’s chosen the route of quality over quantity, letting only the most pristine of tracks see the actual light of day. With the end of the year closing in quickly, he’s graced us with quite the day-after-Christmas present. We have the pleasure of premiering his latest act of violence on sound, which comes in the form of him joining forces with 14 year old Australian wunderkind, Akira, crafting a song so hot it’s an actual ‘HEATWAVE.’

Practically anything involving Akira is guaranteed to be borderline-ridiculously heavy, but this track contains lots of variance as well. The blending of trappy melodies and hard-clapping drums and kicks makes the track overall extremely ear-pleasing. The first drop has funky bells laid over the top that gives it this exceptionally unique feel while still maintaining peak grimy instrumental trap vibes. The breakdown is pitched lower, giving it this slowing effect that will really enrapture you. The final drop will catch you entirely off guard, starting off with horns signaling your doom before smacking you with a tremendously heavy blend of dubstep and trap into this delicious monstrosity.

With Latu keeping his releases to only a few this year in order to focus on building his talent, and Akira being the shockingly young age of 14, yields one to firmly believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what they’re capable of. ‘HEATWAVE’ is the first single off of Latu’s upcoming EP Like Minds, and with how impressive just this one track is, the rest of the release is a 100% can’t-miss. Make sure to keep an eye out for what these two have coming next, but for now check out ‘HEATWAVE’ for yourself below!
