Don’t look now but LA-Based bass wizard eugene is coming for throats in 2020. Fresh off his vanta EP on Bassweight Records, the young menace is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. With world-class sound design and creative percussion elements that draw influence from almost every genre of bass music, eugene has never failed to create an otherworldly soundscape that truly takes listeners on a trip. This time he returns with a powerful two-track EP titled Carbon, in which more emphasis is placed on his spectral vocals while still retaining those chaotic bass-heavy sections.
Beginning with ‘stay here,’ we are immediately thrown into an intro filled with ghostly vocals and heavy-hitting 808s which seem to perfectly dance around each other all the while building tension. After this section, the tension rises while the percussion is omitted to highlight what is to come in the drop. What happens next is nothing short of extraordinary, as the first drop is filled with some of the most violent and loud synths you’ll hear right now, truly painting the picture of an encounter with some otherworldly beast. The second drop gives us a trapped out version of the first, providing the perfect epilogue to this rotten space ballad.
Finishing off the EP we have ‘climate’ which paints an eerie picture of the future with spazzy hi-hats, 808 patterns, and relevant lyrics that are a perfect fit thematically. The energy throughout this project is constant and powerful, and we come to expect nothing less from eugene. Oh, and did we mention it’s a free download? What are you waiting for, go grab it now!
