When we started FUXWITHIT back in 2014, Kash and I didn’t have a clear vision for where we were headed or what we wanted FUXWITHIT to be. We just needed to share the music we loved with as many people as possible. With time, FUXWITHIT shifted from a fun hobby to an obsession and my greatest passion. As the hours invested increased, so did my focus. As we grew and time passed, our need for existing deepened. With each year, the media landscape began shifting. It started with music blogs seeming to cover everything around music, except for the music itself. From who artists are dating, to Twitter beefs and any other social media-driven story that would drive clicks. Seeing the tide shift, I opted to swim against the current and stamped FUXWITHIT as “A Music Blog That’s Actually About Music.” More than just a simple tagline, it was a commitment to our fans, readers and most importantly ourselves, to always put the music first.
As we enter 2020, the direction is still applicable but it’s become too narrow to fully embody FUXWITHIT. Yes, we’re a music blog at our core and we’ll always be one, but we have plans to be that and much more. With that in mind, last year I began my search to find a new mantra. I took stock on what FUXWITHIT is, what it means to our fans and what is at its core. Above all else, we’ve been a voice and platform to help bring under-the-radar artists to the forefront. As other platforms determine what artists they should feature based predominantly on traffic or hype, we’ve focused on bringing you the best new music, period. Fuck traffic potential and social media numbers deciding who gets a spot. We are and always have been Champions Of The Underground.
The new mantra isn’t just a trendy statement to splatter across social media and merch (which may or may not be coming soon), but just as our first tagline was, it’s a commitment. No matter how big we get or how many incredible opportunities we’re afforded, we will always be riding for the underground. Helping the artists that truly deserve it and working to shift the culture.
Further to our own use, it’s meant to be a mantra that you can adopt and stand behind too. Do you support your artist friends? Create music or art outside of mainstream confines? Push what you love regardless of social media stats, clout or any other bullshit? Then you’re a Champion Of The Underground too.
The underground is and always will be the most exciting space in music and art. It’s the future before it’s fully realized. It’s about breaking barriers, taking chances and doing what hasn’t been done. It’s creativity in its purest form. It’s our lifeblood and we’ll be doing everything we can to ensure it continues to thrive.
